Just a few weeks ago, Diamond Platnumz, one of Africa’s top musicians released an album titled A Boy From Tandale. It has been doing well. The launch was in Nairobi and was attended by the who is who in the East African entertainment industry.
He later released a spanking new video, “African Beauty” featuring American singer Omarion to promote the album. The latter was actually in Kenya to support him during his album release. The song is a groovy Afropop release, created by Nigerian producer Krizbeatz, the same guy who worked on Tekno’s 2016 hit “Pana”. It is characterized by a catchy, smooth rock music backdrop.
The video was shot by my interviewee Justin Campos, South Africa’s finest music video director. In my previous conversation with him, Campos revealed that it hasn’t been an easy journey for him.
“My biggest challenge was keeping in the game. I’ve been in the game for 20 years, and at times I found myself lacking motivation due to the volume of production being too much. Dividing myself amongst too many videos. This has since changed, as I don’t say ‘yes’ to all projects. I focus on one project at a time,” he said.
He only takes on the projects he really connects with, and from the look of things, “African Beauty” was just that. It was a masterpiece.
The project was shot back in October 2017 and Zari Hassan was there to support her ex-hubby. Omarion came through and the overall outcome is just thrilling.
The art direction of the video was done by his wife, Candace Campos.
