Interview: Meet the Director Of Davido’s “Pere” Video Featuring Young Thug & Rae Sremmurd

Nigerian singer, Davido has been making waves with his latest music video, “Pere” featuring US rappers Young Thug and Rae Sremmurd. The hit song was produced by DJ Mustard, who has also worked with the likes of Tinashe, Chris Brown, Kid Ink & Ty Dollar $ign.

The video features the artists in a warehouse and sexy grade A dancers do what they do best in a shallow pool. Davido sticks to his Afrobeats roots all the same, as heard in his accent and stylistic output.

The video was directed by Sesan, one of the top directors in Africa. On December 4th 2017, Sesan took to Instagram to share an onset photo while working the artists.

The video was released on July 27th this year and has gotten over 2 million views so far. Rae Sremmurd showcased their dance moves, while Young Thug killed his verse with his dope lyrics.

In my series of interviews with renowned music video directors from all over the world, I interviewed Sesan. He shared his inspiring story with me. Sesan has previously worked with the likes of Wizkid, D’Banj, Nelly, Tiwa Savage and other top artists. He is also the creator behind the Davido “Fans Mi” music video featuring Meek Mill.

When I asked him about what upcoming artists can do to make high-quality videos, this is what he said:

“You can’t have a high concept with a small budget. You can’t walk into a Bentley showroom with Toyota money. Your idea should reflect the size of your budget. However, it doesn’t stop you from being mega creative and creating something unique. That can be done for nothing or free in fact!”

You can read it on Kiss FM online.
